Girl immolates self after neighbour molests her

"The girl was under depression after the molestation by the neighbour and she took the extreme step this morning," local station house officer Surendra Singh said.

To make matter worse for the victim, the girl's family did not inform police about the incident as they tried to settle the issue on their own, Singh said.

The girl poured kerosene and set herself ablaze inside her residence at Bhagwatargh area.

"Initial investigation reveal that the girl's brother had spotted a neighbour molesting her last evening. It appears that the victim committed suicide as she was upset over the incident," the SHO said.

"The body has been handed over to family members after postmortem and the matter is being probed," he added.
