According to reports in Pakistani media, Haroon, 61 resigned as Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations due to differences with Islamabad on certain policy matters and interference in the affairs of his office.

A spokesperson at Pakistan's mission to the UN here said the mission is "neither denying nor confirming" the reports of Haroon's resignation.

"The ambassador is leaving for Pakistan on Monday for consultations," the spokesperson told PTI.

He said during the visit, Haroon will "certainly (meet) the highest political leadership."

The spokesperson said he has no comments on reports that the Pakistani envoy had resigned due to differences with his government.

Haroon assumed his position as Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the UN in September 2008.

Pakistan is currently a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. Its term will expire next year.
