Addressing a press conference here, Verma claimed that he had not contested the Assembly elections against Congress but entered the fray on the issue of development of Chopal, which had faced neglect during past ten years and remained backward.

The support of Verma has increased the strength of Congress to 37 in 68-member House and party sources claimed that two more independent MLAs would also announce their support to the Congress for a stable government.

Meanwhile, the Congress Legislature party is meeting here to elect the new leader and hectic lobbying is on for the top post.
