Prof Anuradha Mukhopadhyay today joined as vice chancellor of the varsity in Asansol's Churulia, District Magistrate Omkar Singh Meena said.

Sources said around 25 colleges of Asansol, Purulia and Birbhum will be delinked from Burdwan University, which currently has around 119 colleges under its fold, from the next academic session and tagged to the new one.

Named after the rebel poet, the Nazrul Islam University was announced by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee earlier in May.

The newly-created Kazi Nazrul Islam University here in Asansol will relieve Burdwan University of 25 colleges in Asansol, Purulia and Birbhum, officials said today.

Prof Anuradha Mukhopadhyay today joined as vice chancellor of the varsity in Asansol's Churulia, District Magistrate Omkar Singh Meena said.

Sources said around 25 colleges of Asansol, Purulia and Birbhum will be delinked from Burdwan University, which currently has around 119 colleges under its fold, from the next academic session and tagged to the new one.
