In a letter to External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said that the UAE government had permitted those staying there after expiry of their visas to return to their countries without paying penalty between December 4 and February 3.

A large number of Indians in the UAE are Keralites. Many of them could be overstaying, and they should be able to make use of the opportunity, he added.

Chandy also said the state government was willing to provide all help in this regard.
