Kotkhai case: CBI court extends judicial custody of cops till

A special today extended till December 19 the judicial custody of all nine police officials accused in the custodial death case of an accused in the rape-and-case of a minor girl in Kotkhai in July.

The case relates to the custodial death of Suraj Singh, one of the six accused in the rape-and-case of the 16- year-old girl.

Singh, a 29-year-old labourer from Nepal, was killed allegedly by another accused in the rape-and-case at Kotkhai police station on the night of July 18-19, triggering a massive public outrage.

The nine policemen, including an IG-rank officer, were arrested by the in connection with the custodial death.

The has filed a chargesheet against the IG-rank officer, Z H Zaidi, and seven others. An additional charge- sheet would be filed against Superintendent of Police D W Negi, who was arrested on November 16 in connection with the custodial death.

Both the matters - the rape-and-case of the girl and the custodial death of Singh - were handed to the on July 19.

The chargesheet has said Singh died due to severe torture.

The girl, a Class X student, had gone missing on July 4 and her naked body was recovered from Haliala forests in Kotkhai on July 6.
