Noted Marathi writer Pravin Davane today said the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sameelan (literary meet) should not be restricted only to shows and glamour but should benefit the literature lovers.
Davane is contesting for the President's position of the 90th literary meet, which is being held in Dombivili in the district between February 3 and 5.
"There is quest for writing from remotest regions of Maharashtra and good writing by youngsters needs to be protected and encouraged," the writer told reporters here.
Davane, who has penned lyrics for several Marathi movies, said a time has now come to protect and preserve Marathi language and this could be done only through such 'sameelans'.
"The sameelans (literary meet) should not be only restricted to revelling or big show offs but should include several activities of promoting literature, art, culture, and other related acts including symposium, debate, competition, 'kavi sameelan' (poet meet) among others," said Davane.
