Martin Lawrence files for divorce

The 47-year-old "Bad Boys" star wed Shamicka Lawrence in July 2010 but the union did not last and the couple announced their separation last Tuesday, reported TMZ online.

Lawrence filed for divorce the very next day in Los Angeles County Superior Court, citing irreconcilable differences for the break-up.

In his divorce petition, the actor has requested joint physical and legal custody of their two kids, Iyanna, 11, and nine-year-old Amara Trinity.

Lawrence and his wife have released a joint statement, claiming, "Out of love and respect for one another, we will continue to remain friends and raise our two beautiful daughters together."

The estranged couple had a pre-nuptial agreement in place. PTI CORR NDS
