Naveen Thomas John from Bangalore came second followed by Surawat Ahmad of Thailand.

About 100 cyclists from different parts of the country and abroad participated in the one-day race which took place on the banks of world famous Dal Lake.

The race was flagged off by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah at Royal Springs golf course this morning amid much fanfare.

Organised by Tour De India in collaboration with the International Cycling Federation, the race saw participation of 68 foreign cyclists and 30 Indians including a Kashmiri youth who covered seven 26-kilometre laps -- a total distance of over 160 kms.

The race is being held in three cities of the country.

On December 2, the first leg of the race was held in Mumbai and the third and final leg will be held on December 9 at the Buddh International Circuit in Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

"It is the first mega event of its kind here and would provide exposure to the youth of the state of an international event," Minister for Youth Services and Sports R S Chib, who distributed the prizes among the winners, said.
