Mumbai girl Suhaani wins bronze at Commonwealth Chess

Suhaani Lohia of won the bronze medal in the girls' Under-8 category of the Commonwealth Chess Championship 2017.

Suhaani, ranked third in the tournament, finished with a score of 5.5 out of 7 games at the championship which concluded in yesterday.

She and compatriot Hiya Panchal, ranked seventh, who also ended with 5.5 points, were tied in second spot, but the latter, with a better tie-break progressive score, clinched the silver medal and Suhaani had to settle for the bronze, a media release said today.

India's WCM Shefali A N from Karnataka, ranked No 1, finished with a tally of 6 points and took the gold medal.

Suhaani, a student of the Dhirubhai Ambani School, trains at the South Chess Academy (SMCA).
