Nine held for betting on cockfight

Police today claimed to have busted a gang of gamblers by arresting nine persons who were indulged in betting on cockfights in the Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir.

On specific information police raided the forest area of the district and arrested nine persons, a police officer said.



He said the accused have been identified as Kumar, Surinder, Amjad Rahi, Sanjay Kumar, Shallu Kumar, Satish Kumar, Vijay Kumar, Sanjay Singh and Jog Raj.

He said 34 vehicles including five cars were also seized from the spot.

A case under gambling act and prevention of cruelty towards animals has been registered against the accused.
