Omar for early resolution of row between IOA and IOC

"We express hope that the Sports Ministry and Indian Olympic Association will take urgent steps to resolve the issue with International Olympic Council so that sportspersons can take part in international competitions under the Indian flag," Omar said while addressing hockey players of various states who arrived here for the 61st All India Police Hockey Championship.

Declaring open the 61st All India Police Hockey Championship here today, Omar said athletes take pride to represent their country in international competitions.

"The athletes are enthusiastic to represent their country and bring laurels to it," he said emphasising the need for an early resolution of the row between IOA and IOC.

Omar welcomed the J&K Police department for holding the All India Police Hockey Championship here and said that during last couple of years, the state has organised about a dozen national sporting events.

The Chief Minister, who is also the president of Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, said that the state government was paying full attention to the development and growth of sports and sportspersons.

He said that various measures have been taken to nurture talents and provide them infrastructure.

The Chief Minister said that participation in sports not only inculcates discipline and zest to achieve goals among youths but helps them develop holistically.

As many as 23 teams from various states and police forces are participating in the championship which will conclude on December 14.
