A division bench of Justices A M Khanwilkar and A R Joshi was today apprised of the measures undertaken by the government to track down these people.

Additional public prosecutor Ajay Gadkari told the court that special cells have been formed to track down the accused and two senior IPS officers have been appointed as nodal officers to monitor the effort.

He told the court that the figures have come down by 1,000 to 12,000 following the efforts undertaken by the police since last year.

Gadkari submitted a report of a Special Inspector General attached to State CID stating a comprehensive plan has been prepared to track down the remaining absconding accused.

The court was hearing a plea regarding the huge number of absconding accused and convicts, who have been released on bail or parole.
