Rajasthan Congress chief Sachin Pilot today raised suspicion on the ruling BJP's intent of fielding the wife of former MLA B L Kushwah, who was convicted in a murder case, from the Dholpur Assembly seat.
The BJP instead of trusting its own party leaders announced Shobha Rani as its candidate for the by-election to the seat, he claimed after the Congress's candidate Banwari Lal Sharma filed his nomination papers.
"It is strange that despite a full-majority government at the Centre and the state, the BJP has announced that the wife of a murder convict as its candidate," Pilot said.
Sharma filed his nomination papers for the seat where he had defeated Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje in 1993.
Pilot asserted that Congress is ready to take on the BJP.
"Though the government has tried once again to deceive voters by making announcements in the Budget, the election will clear people's reaction on BJP's governance in state," Pilot added.
