Press Trust of India  |  Guwahati

The Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme is an effective scheme to tackle unemployment and generate sustainable employment opportunities in rural and urban areas, Commissioner of Industries and Commerce K K Dwivedi said here today.

"Financial institutions like banks play a crucial role in creating employment and they should work in right earnest to meet the targets of the programme," the Commissioner said while conducting a review meeting of PMEPG.

He also asked the banks to expedite disbursement of the margin money to benefit the people.

State Director of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) Ashish Prasad Modak and representatives of all leading banks operating in the state were present in today's meeting.

PMEGP is a credit-linked subsidy programme of the Ministry of MSME for creation of employment in both rural and urban areas.

Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) is the Nodal Agency of the programme, the release added.
