CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury today said the Left Front will support a presidential candidate who will strengthen the constitutional framework of the country.
"The Left Front will support a presidential candidate who will strengthen the constitutional framework and will lead the country out of the present situation," Yechury told reporters here.
"We will definitely want a candidate who will be supported by all parties," he said adding, the party has no qualms about talking to arch-rival Trinamool Congress on the issue.
Earlier, addressing a rally here, Yechury came down heavily on the prevalent situation in Uttar Pradesh and said, "The present UP Chief Minister is running the state on his whims. By imposing dress codes and issuing diktats about one's food habits, common people's right to live independently with their own choices is being snatched away."
He also said that the BJP's move on the issue of triple talaq was only encouraging the RSS.
Criticising the Trinamool Congress-led state government in West Bengal, the CPI(M) general secretary said crores of rupees have been laundered in the Saradha chit fund scam and the Narada sting operation.
"Crores of rupees were laundered in the Saradha and Narada scams, but workers in tea gardens are not getting their minimum wages. And the Chief Minister is silent," Yechury said.
"The TMC cannot stand the fact that two civic bodies in here - the Siliguri Municipal Corporation and the Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad - are run by the Left Front.
"That is the reason they are stalling funds to provide civic amenities to the people. But, we will not go for a confrontation with them. We will fight it out peacefully along with the people who are suffering," the CPI(M) leader said.
