Process for U'khand identity cards begins Nov 1

In a meeting of National Population Register (NPR) under state Chief Secretary Alok Kumar Jain yesterday, it was informed that the identity card would be a smart card based on biometric system in which the photograph, finger prints as well as pupil details will be printed, official sources said.

According to sources, there will be camps to carry out the process in the state with a target of 300 per day.

In the meeting, Jain said the data of families should also be given to the Food department so that they can use it for verification and computerisation of the public distribution system.

A database of 78,14,607 people has been prepared, he said.

He said there will also be a 27-digit TIN number in the identity cards that will include the codes of an individual's zila, tehsil, village.
