Punjab govt to recruit 225 coaches for betterment of sport

The recruitment would be conducted through Punjab Subordinate Selection Board. The last date of submitting application forms is August 3.

Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson said that the Punjab government has taken the decision to recruit 225 new coaches for 29 disciplines with an aim to strengthen the sports in the state.

A total of 23 coaches will be hired for athletics, while 18 new coaches will be drafted in for the basketball. Five coaches will be recruited for lawn tennis, 18 for volleyball, three for shooting and four for cycling, he said.

Meanwhile, fencing will get two coaches while football will get 17 new coaches.

Hockey is slated to get 25 new coaches, while 19 coaches will be hired to improve the standards of wrestling in the state, he added.

Kabaddi will get three new coaches, weight lifting 12 and gymnastics will get 10 coaches. Boxing, handball and judo each will get 11 new coaches.

Cricket is slated to get two coaches, while six new coaches will be drafted for table tennis. For swimming a total of eight coaches have been hired.

Kho-Kho will get three coaches, while archery, softball, golf, skating, power lifting, horse riding, chess and roping will each get one coach, he informed.

He added that the aspirants must have passed the matriculation or senior secondary examination with at least second division besides having a diploma in the concerned sport from National Institute of Sports (NIS).

He also said that the aspirants of those games, which have no diploma course, should have secured first position at the national and inter-university level in that particular sport with a compulsory diploma or bachelors degree in Physical Education.
