"The results of Swachh Survekshan-2018 will be announced in the second fortnight of May. This time 4,203 cities have been covered as part of this survey," Durgashankar Mishra, Secretary, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, told reporters here.
Mishra expressed confidence that by October 2, 2018, India would be open defecation free (ODF). He informed that at present, 15 states and 2,500 cities had been declared ODF.
In reply to a question, he informed that door-to-door collection of garbage covered 76 per cent of urban households.
In these areas, 39 per cent waste was being segregated while 29 per cent of solid waste was being managed and disposed off scientifically.
He said that more efforts were needed in the field of scientific disposal of garbage.
