The benchmark CNX Nifty shuttled between 5,698.25 and 5,660.35 before concluding at 5,666.95, a fall of 16.75 points, or 0.29 per cent, over the previous close.

Session commenced on a cheerful note as traders started the auspicious token buying to mark the beginning of the new Hindu calender year, Samvat - 2069. The key-index gained further momentum on the back of good buying and touched the highest point of the day.

However, bourses encountered profit-taking at higher level, which trimmed entire early gains and finished with modest losses.

Strong buying momentum were seen in second line counters.

Financials, technology and auto space witnessed selling, while fmcg, capital goods, infra, media and metal counters attracted good buying interest.

JP Associates, Ultracemco, Dr Reddy, , SBIN, , Grasim, , and Infosys , HeroMotorCop, , , , Tata were the top percentage-wise Nifty losers.

The key movers included , Maruti, , Siemens, Reliance, , , , and Coal India.

Volumes were substantially thin in the special trading session.

The cash segment recorded a turnover of Rs 2,951.03 crore. Overall, 2,549.63 lakh shares changed hands in 15,44,024 trades. Total market capitalisation was Rs 64,43,331 crore.
