Tech edu institutes to declare seats before academic session

Press Trust of India  |  Chandigarh

Technical Education Minister Charanjit Singh Channi said today that all the technical educational institutes will have to declare the seats of each course before the start of academic session.

This was stated here today by the minister while meeting a joint action committee (JAC) comprising 13 different associations representing over 1,000 unaided colleges of Punjab, said an official release.

According to the release, Channi said that no institute will be allowed to increase seats after the declaration of seats of courses.

There would be no compromise on the issue of providing quality education to the students, he said.

Channi said a uniform and transparent procedure will be adopted for the verification and inspection of technical education institutes.

He said a technical education department is in the process of formulating a comprehensive action plan to ensure the same. He asked the representatives of the unaided institutes to give their inputs for evolving a uniform inspection pattern.

The JAC also submitted a memorandum urging the government to exclude unaided colleges from the ambit of the regulatory body as their number of seats, admissions, syllabus, examination, fee structure etc is already regulated by various regulatory bodies.
