With the arrest of three persons in the last two days, Thane city police today claimed to have got a major breakthrough in hunting down the Suresh Pujari gang.
Joint Commissioner of Police Ashutosh Dhumre said the Anti-Extortion Cell of city police arrested Yesh alias Pappa alias Ramesh Bhimrao Patil, 40, Vijay Prakash Sundar Pujari, 43, and Dayanand Narayan Amin alias Pujari, 62.
Vijay and Dayanand were arrested last evening while Patil was arrested on Wednesday.
Pujari gang targeted businessmen and builders in Thane and Mumbai, he said.
The arrested trio passed on information about the businessmen and builders to the gang, the JCP said.
Police also seized three pistols and live cartridges from the arrested accused. Further probe is on.
