To bring the peripheral areas

under the jurisdiction of a single umbrella, Chief Minister today announced to create State Capital Region Development Authority.

According to an official release, Sonowal held a meeting with Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and other senior officials.

The meeting decided that in order to extend the fruits of metropolitan development administration to the peripheral areas of Guwahati and to stimulate fast development of all areas adjoining the city, State Capital Region Development Authority will come into force very soon.

However, it was decided to take into cognizance the opinions of the local people and consult them before taking final call on the project, the statement said.

"The meeting decided to prepare a draft to give a shape to the proposed State Capital Region Development Authority, delineates the areas to figure in the Development Authority and consult the people to take all the stakeholders on board," it added.

The meeting also mooted the idea that State Capital Region Development Authority will be envisaged in sync with the unique character of a place to be brought under the project so that inherent characteristics of all the places remain intact.
