TRS and Congress members pelt stones in Nalgonda district

Mild tension prevailed in Nalgonda district of after members of ruling and clashed and pelted stones at each other when they came face-to-face during a programme.

Windowpanes of at least eight vehicles were damaged in stone pelting, while some activists also received injuries in the scuffle, said police.

Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and other party workers were taken into preventive custody after the incident, said police.

The trouble started after Reddy took out a rally "without permission" to the venue of an official programme in Gandhamvarigudem of the district where state Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao was scheduled to take part, police said.

On noticing workers, members raised slogans against them following which heated arguments broke out and the activists of both the sides indulged in stone pelting, said police.

Police immediately intervened and dispersed both the groups and brought the situation under control, Nalgonda District Superintendent of Police N Prakash Reddy, who visited the spot and reviewed the situation, told PTI over phone.

The SP said, "Reddy took the rally near the venue of the event without permission."

Following the scuffle, the and his followers were taken into preventive custody and cases will be registered for rioting and unlawful assembly against the workers, the senior police officer said.
