The Inland Container Depot (ICD) in Tughlakabad in Delhi has been shut since yesterday evening because of the purported presence of 40 suspicious containers.
Police said that officials of several security agencies had been checking the suspicious containers.
"We have cordoned off the premises and banned the entry of any vehicle and person inside the ICD compound till further orders," said a senior police officer.
Around 800 trucks have been stranded outside the facility since yesterday evening.
There were inputs that Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) in large quantities will be smuggled into the country through sea routes.
There were also inputs about radioactive material being present in some containers.
However, officials were tight-lipped about the matter.
The Tughlakabad ICD is one of the largest hubs of multi-modal transport in the Indian sub-continent.
