Beed (Maha), Jun 8 (PTI) In the wake of several cases of illegal abortions and dumping of female foetuses coming to light in the district, police today arrested two persons, including a woman, for allegedly not maintaining records of abortion pills at their medical shop, police said.

Based on a complaint by a drug inspector, owner of Payal Medical shop Usha Chavan and a pharmacist employed at the shop Rajabhau Dhenge were held today, police said.

Officials of the Food & Drugs Administration (FDA) had conducted a search at the medical shop two days back and had found that they had not maintained records of the abortion pills and injections.

The officials also came to know that they had flouted the norms by selling these medicines without doctors' prescription, police said.

Following a complaint by drug inspector Rupesh Vhatkar, a case was registered against the duo on Friday.

FDA has been carrying out surprise checks at medical shops in various parts of the district.
