Two men drowned while as many others were rescued from sea off the famous Rushikonda beach in the city today, the police said.
The incident occurred when a group of four picnickers from Hyderabad entered the sea for a swim, but got trapped in a strong current, according to a police official.
P M Palem police station inspector K Lakshmana Murthy said the locals present on the beach and lifeguards jumped into the sea after they saw the men drowning, but could save only two of them.
The deceased are identified as Rahul Pandit (33) and Nawal Upadhaya (27) while the rescued persons as Akbar Hussain and Faisaliuddin.
