Two Lankan fishermen injured in pirate attack rescued

A group of five fishermen, who sailed off the coast of Devinuwara in the south, were assaulted by a group of pirates and thrown them into the sea, Navy spokesman Commander Kosala Warnakulasuriya said today.

A merchant vessel had rescued the injured fishermen, he said.

It was feared that three other fishermen were dumped in the sea by their attackers.

Sri Lanka Navy's Offshore Patrol Vessel - SLNS Jayasagara - brought the two fishermen for medical treatment after being handed over to them by the merchant vessel in deep south eastern seas of Sri Lanka.
