A school teacher was booked for allegedly trying to rape a 13-year-old student of his in Shamli district, police said today. The incident allegedly took place yesterday when the teacher called the girl into a room inside the school campus, Circle Officer Vir Pal Singh said. The girl told her parents about the incident after reaching home, Singh said. On a complaint from the girl's mother, the police have registered a case against the teacher, Harbinder Singh, under IPC sections dealing with outraging a woman's modesty and attempt to rape along with the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The teacher was absconding, the circle officer said. The girl's parents, along with others, staged a protest outside the school this morning, demanding the arrest of the teacher, he said.
