Tamil Maanila Congress Chief G K Vasan today demanded that the Centre find a permanent solution to the long-standing fishermen issue.
"The Central government should take steps to resolve the vexed fishermen issue and also provide protection to them," Vasan told reporters here.
On the ongoing protest by farmers from the state in New Delhi, he accused the BJP government at the Centre of failing to meet their demands, which include a drought relief package of Rs 40,000 crore and farm loan waiver.
The TMC leader also requested the state government to take steps on a war-footing to provide water supply in drought-hit southern districts.
Earlier in the day, Vasan gave away a compensation of Rs 50,000 to the family of 22-year-old Bridgo, who was allegedly shot dead by the Sri Lankan Navy last month.
