Youth drown, friend missing in sea off Tarkarli beach

One youth drowned while another is missing in sea off the famous Tarkarli beach in Sindhudurg district today, police said.

"A group of 7-8 youths entered sea for a swim when they noticed that two of them are missing for some time. One of them alerted police, following which the coastal police along with divers and fishermen launched the search," a police official said, adding that body of one of the missing youths has been fished out.



The deceased has been identified as Nikhil Patil, a resident of Tasgaon in Sangli district in western Maharashtra.

Another youth, identified as Swapnil Youth, is yet to be found and police suspect that he might have drowned too.

"The body of Mohite is yet to be found. The search is suspended for now. We will resume it tomorrow morning. Both the youths were in their mid-twenties," the official added.

He said postmortem will be conducted once Mohite's body is fished out.
