Gordon Herbert (India) Ltd. (GORDONHERB) - Company History

Incorporated on 11 Jul.'83, Gordon Herbert (India) (GHIL) was promoted by Vinay Rai and Anil Rai. Later, the company was taken over by the Usha group and became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Usha (India). The company came out with a public issue of 85 lac equity shares at a premium of Rs 10 aggregating Rs 17 cr. The object of this issue was to part-finance the company's modernisation and expansion plans in the field of fabricated structures, technological structures, etc. The total project cost was estimated at Rs 52 cr. The company's business consists of supplying plant and machinery for turnkey projects connected with steel, cement, paper, etc. It also provides technical consultation for projects, design and supply of technological structures, project management supervision, material handling systems, equipment for blast furnaces, steel melting shops, rolling mills and other equipment for steel plants. The company has a technical collaboration with Stelco Technical Services, Canada, for technical assistance in engineering and other projects. The Company is entering into the infotech segment in a big way, and has sold its steel engineering construction plant in West Bengal to Smriti Sales Pvt Ltd for a total consideration of Rs 16 crore. Gordon Herbert has acquired the entire business of Selectronic Equipment and Services Pvt Ltd. Selectronic is a leading medical transcription (MT) companies with a manpower of about 250 medical transcriptionists. The Company is planning to set up an office in Boston for the sales and support of its MT business.
