SVA India Ltd. (SVAINDIA) - Chairman Speech

Company chairman speech

DEAR FRIENDS

At SVA we often talk at length about our unsurpassed growth strategy and how we aresustaining that growth momentum. But we seldom ask ourselves one simple but fundamentalquestion: ‘Is there any deeper purpose behind this strategy? Any definite plan ofwhich multi-sectoral growth is just the outward expression or affirmation?’ I wouldlike to take this opportunity to answer this question unambiguously; so that you canunderstand our priorities better and see our road ahead clearer. From a very modestbeginning we have reached a stage in our corporate existence when we cannot be justidentified as a manufacturer of zinc oxide. We have not restricted our vision in thedomain of zinc oxide or in trading of stocks and shares for that matter. We havereinforced our footprint in altogether new segment of tea and tea products and evenforaying into the hotels and retail sector of the Company’s brand product"BASILUR TEA" and new brand product "AUSSEE OATS" at Sri Lanka withthe main object to manufacture Oats and Muesli based food products for local and exportmarket. The purpose is not just enhanced visibility but to understand global marketforces better and to create products and solutions that fulfill the needs of today andtomorrow in line with evolving socio-economic scenario. Effective innovation has alwaysbeen our motto.

Although the sharp increase in prices of raw materials have dragged down the profitsfigures but it has not affected the Company’s potential to keep on growing. In apost-recessionary global economy our deep-rooted belief that companies today mustharmonize performance with social commitment — is resonating more than ever before. This has important implications for different stakeholders: for consumers and shareownersthis translates into creating enhanced value both economic and social through trustedbrands; for governments and the general public it translates into responsibility. Allbusinesses have a responsibility to the communities in which they operate to theconsumers they serve and to the planet whose resources they use.

ENVIRONMENT AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Environment protection and social responsibility are deeply ingrained in our corporatecredo. SLCL’s concern for the environment is reflected in the following initiatives:in-campus greening; encouraging judicious use of natural resources; recycling; pollutioncontrol to ensure clean air and water; and reduction of landfill wastes. We have alsoDeveloped 30 acres of land for organic product development. We ensure healthy workingenvironment and proper housing and medical facilities for our people. We adhere to strictlab our compliance to all working conditions and benefits as directed under Indian Labourlaws.

PARTING THOUGHTS

At SVA we believe what’s right for society is right for business. It is a beliefto which we are deeply committed. Businesses cannot create supreme value locally orglobally without an underpinning of integrity and responsibility. We will continue tochart our future course of action based on this fundamental value system seeking theencouragement and support of all stakeholders. Finally I would like to put on record mysincere appreciation towards all the stakeholders be it bankers shareholders customerssuppliers and the employees for the continuing faith and confidence that they have reposedon us. We are confident that with their continued support co-operation and guidance theCompany will excel to achieve new landmarks in future.

Warm Regards Ms. Ranjana Gupta
