GE partners MSDE to train locals for new locomotive facility in Bihar

The US-based firm is setting up a factory at Marhaura (Bihar) to build 900 diesel locomotives

GE partners MSDE to train locals for new locomotive facility in Bihar

General Electric (GE) in partnership with Union and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) is planning to source workers and skilled technicians from Bihar itself, in line with its greenfield manufacturing base being set up in Marhaura (Bihar), service facilities in Roza (UP) and Gandhidham (Gujarat). also plans to set up state of the art skilling centres with support from the Ministry.

In November 2015, the Railway Ministry had signed an agreement with under which the US firm would invest $200 million to develop and supply the with 1,000 As per this project, will roll out 900 from a new factory at Marhaura in Saran district of Bihar.

As part of the project, the production of first railway coaches will start from mid-next year from Saran. GE, in collaboration with India Railways, is nearing completion of a diesel locomotive manufacturing plant in Marhaura. A new transmission line to Marhaura is being created to provide electricity to this factory. is also coming up with a state of the art maintenance shed for in railway’s land in Roza near Shahjahanpur. 

To discuss the progress of the project, a delegation of led by its vice chairman met Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, on Tuesday. During the meeting Rudy expressed his desire that should conduct skill mapping of the surrounding areas in consequent wake of the requirement of skilled workforce in setting of the plant. He stated that the nearing ITIs can be leveraged to offer skilled resources. 

delegation informed the Minister that it was working on extending support for ancillary industries in that region.
