The emperor of wine
Radhieka Pandeya / New Delhi June 2, 2007
Intellectual refreshment is the reason Aman Dhall, CEO of Brindco, gives for his bias towards business books... but that doesn’t deny participation from self-help writers like Robin Sharma and Paulo Coelho in his literary conquests.
“The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari and The Alchemist are not only interesting reads but also leave the reader with a different line of thought,” he explains.
Heading one of India’s largest wine importing companies, Dhall finds immense delight in books on wine, especially those penned by wine critic Robert Parker, with a book on Parker himself, written by Elin McCoy — The Emperor of Wine — finding special mention for its fulfilling journey into the life of Parker.
Fiction stands no chance in front of the numerous business books that Dhall reads, most of which help him keep abreast of the latest techniques, theories, tools and processes in the business and management world. So, like most good business tome addicts, his favourites include Jack Welch and Malcolm Gladwell.

But it’s Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom, the most moving book he’s read, that remains his favourite till date. What Dhall absolutely detests is writings on health and fitness... unfortunately a genre his wife thrives on. “I like to eat and drink and live life the way I want... just have fun. I don’t want people telling me what to eat!” he laughs.
Not very big on creating a huge library, he finds pleasure in his small collection of books that remain close to his heart. That and any one business book that travels out with him to refresh him before a meeting.
