Krrish grosses over Rs 100 cr in 2 weeks
Our Corporate Bureau / Mumbai July 10, 2006
Krrish, the sequel to Koi Mil Gaya, has grossed over Rs 100 crore worldwide in its first two weeks. With this, the film has outdone YashRaj Films Fanaa, which had gross collections of Rs 90 crore at the end of three weeks.

According to trade analyst, Taran Adarsh, this is the first time that an Indian film has crossed the 100 crore mark in its first two weeks.

FilmKraft, producers of Krrish, pegs the overseas collections from the film at Rs 20-25 crore.

Before Krrish emerged as the fastest money-spinner of recent times, Fanaa had registered record collections. Krrish debuted at number nine in the UK top 10 in its first week and had the highest per screen collections of pound 4576 (approximately Rs 3.25 lakh), among films in the top 10.

While Fanaa on a smaller budget of approximately Rs 25 crore was released with 527 prints, Krrish with a budget of around Rs 45 crore, saw a bigger release, with a record number of over 800 prints.

Krrish had looked to leverage itself through various co-branded partnerships. The partnership with Star India was announced last year itself.

FilmKraft entered into a merchandising contract with Pantaloons Retail to manufacture and market merchandise like dolls, masks, key-chains, watches, T-shirts and school bags at its various outlets.

Krrish’s other marketing tie-ups include HPCL (Power), Pidilite (Acron Rangeela), ITC (John Players), and HLL (Lifebuoy).

Besides these, Singapore Tourism is offering an exclusive ‘Krrish’ Singapore Tour that covers the locations where the film was shot.
