| 12 Tata Group firms keen on investing in Karnataka |

In a last minute entry into Karnataka’s global investors’ meet (GIM), 12 Tata Group companies have evinced interest in investing in the state. A high-level delegation led by B Muthuraman, vice chairman, Tata Steel held discussions with the state government, here on Saturday.
The delegation included representatives from Tata Sons Limited, Tata Housing Development Company, Tata Communications, Tata Power, Tata Consulting Engineers, Tata Steel, Tata Consultancy Services, Tata International, Tata Chemicals, Tata Docomo and The Indian Hotels Company.
According to V P Baligar, principal secretary, department of industries and commerce, the delegation of Tata companies showed interest, mainly in the areas of housing, hospitality and the steel sector.
While the government has already approved the proposal to set up a steel plant by Tata Metaliks in Haveri in north Karnataka, the state has offered land to the Tata Group for their industrial housing projects at various locations.
He said, Tata Housing Development Company has shown interest in replicating its Nano housing model in the state. The company has developed budget housing project in Maharashtra and sold flats for Rs 4 lakh. It wants to do the same in Karnataka too.
The company has been offered land at various places including Doddaballapur, Devanahalli, Dharwad, Mysore and Harohalli among others, Baligar said.
He said, “The state government would be happy to allot land to the Tata Group for any project anywhere. We have had discussions with Muthuraman and are waiting for their detailed proposals,” he told reporters.
Already, the state high level clearance committee has accorded in-principle clearance to Tata Metaliks for setting up a steel plant in Haveri and Tata Elxsi for expanding their campus in Bangalore.
