1320 Mw TTPS expansion by 2010
BS Reporter / Kokata/ Bhubaneswar Nov 07, 2009, 00:31 IST

The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) plans to start the expansion work of its 460 Mw Talcher Thermal Power Station (TTPS) at Talcher by the middle of the next year. The capacity of TTPS will be expanded with addition of two units of 660 Mw each.

The feasibility report for the proposed expansion will be prepared and approved by January, after which the notice inviting tender (NIT) will be issued.

The actual start of the construction will take about 8-9 months more, said R S Sharma, Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD), NTPC.

After meeting the Orissa chief minister Naveen Patnaik in the state secretariat today, Sharma said, the hundred percent power sharing from the proposed expansion as demanded by the Orissa government is a matter between the state government and the Union ministry of power.

NTPC has already written about this issue to the Union power ministry and they will have to resolve it. It may be noted, Orissa chief minister Naveen Patnaik had urged the power ministry to allow 100 percent power from the proposed 1320 Mw expansion of TTPS as it was a state dedicated project earlier when it was under the state government.

On other projects to be implemented in the state, the NTPC chief said, the feasibility report for the 3200 Mw power project at Darliapalli (Sundergarh) has been prepared and approved. Similarly, the feasibility report for the proposed 3200 Mw power plant at Gajamara (Dhenkanal) will be ready by January 2010. Then there will be benchmarking, he added. On the other hand, the vexed water issue for these projects has been resolved, Sharma added.
