The government would rake in a minimum of over Rs 20,000 crore from the auction of third generation (3G) spectrum, as the sixth day of the auction saw the pan-India licence reaching a bid of Rs 5,095.91 crore, up by about 46 per cent. This means the government has achieved 66 per cent of the targeted revenues of Rs 30,000 crore.
The government has plans to garner Rs 35,000 crore from the auctions of 3G and Broadband Wireless access (BWA), out of which Rs 30,000 crore is expected from 3G only. There are three blocks for 3G auction in 17 circles. In rest of the five circles, four blocks of spectrum are available.
However, the telecom department expects the total revenues from both auctions to go up to Rs 45,000 crore. The base price for a pan-India licence is Rs 3,500 crore.
A total of 34 rounds were completed till today. The auction started on April 9 and is expected to be completed in one-two weeks. BWA auction would start two days after the close of 3G auction.
Gujarat continues to have the highest bid price at Rs 512.61 crore, followed by Delhi at Rs 493.09 crore.
