| What started as an employee-driven initiative at 3M India a few years ago, has now inspired the whole company into embracing it as a countrywide corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme.

| 3M India, a company driven by innovation which has a diverse business portfolio touching the lives of millions, has taken the initiative to mobilise money to support the cause of education for the underprivileged.

| Globally, the company has CSR initiatives in education, health and humanity services, arts, culture and environment, and voluntary community service. In India, 3M has made its beginning through education and now includes arts and culture.

| In education, the company has set its eyes on providing grants to needy children and participate in several programmes run by them to encourage students and teachers.

| “Children are the backbone of our society and it is our duty to ensure all round development of a child. 3M India believes education is the key driver that moulds a child into a successful individual,” Lee M Kennedy, MD, 3M India Ltd.

| 3M globally took the initiative to mobilise money for Christel House, an NGO which runs schools for poor.
|

| 3M India has taken a similar lead in the country by organising The Christel House Open, a charity golf tournament held every year by Christel House world-wide. The tournament brings together several industry heads and philanthropists to support the cause and at the same time enjoy a game of golf.

| “In India, Christel House initiatives currently benefit over 600 children which includes their complete education, food, uniforms and textbooks. The third year in the running, the company is taking the tournament to cities of Delhi, Pune and Bangalore to mobilise more money ,” said Kennedy.

| “Before initiating on a large scale, employees in various offices during Diwali, Christmas and local festival will spend time and resources in raising money for local institutions. This continues even now,” he added.

| “We have been doing this for the last two years and we plan to mobilise Rs 60 lakh this year compared to Rs 37 lakh mobilised in 2004,” he added. |
