6 more wedding malls in North
Vishal Sharma / Agra May 24, 2005
The wedding market in India is growing each year, and with this exponential increase in the expenditure made by Indians in their lavish weddings a new concept of “wedding malls” has emerged, seeking to tap the Rs 50,000 crore wedding market of India.

This wedding season, the Delhi-based Omaxe Construction Ltd is seeking to establish six more wedding malls in north-western India after launching the construction projects of such malls in Gurgaon and Patiala along with Agra, where the project was launched on Saturday.

Talking to the media persons on this occasion at the Hotel Taj View, Kunal Banerjee, Senior Vice President (Marketing), Omaxe Construction Ltd. said that the wedding mall, which was being constructed in the heart of the city, on the Agra-Delhi highway, was a brainchild of the Omaxe group and its Joint venture partners in Agra – Sarv Prakash Developers.

He said that compared to ordinary shopping malls, this “wedding mall” was a unique concept that had not been introduced elsewhere by any other construction company.

Elaborating on the project specifications, Mr. Banerjee said that the Omaxe wedding mall was designed as a “specialized shopping mall” catering to all wedding requirements from wedding wear, jewellery, banquets to beauty parlours & furnishings, all under one roof.

Moreover, he said, the wedding mall shall cater to all the pre as well as post-wedding needs with wedding card makers and honeymoon package organizers making the wedding preparation easier than ever.

He said that the Omaxe wedding malls are being designed by internationally renowned architect Hafeez Contractor and the Agra mall shall have a retail space of 1,75,000 sq. ft., divided into four levels.

The ground floor shall be dedicated only to the wedding wear & jewelry and the upper ground floor to other accessories like footwear, luggage & electronics. The first floor shall present the attractions of a food court and a three screen multiplex cinema.

The atrium shall comprise of furniture, house planning & fitness equipments while two banquet halls shall also be “embedded” in the mall. Ideally located in the centre of the town, surrounded by posh localities, this mall was certainly going to become a prime landmark for the city of Taj.

He said that the company has launched two more such projects in Gurgaon and Patiala, while projects for Amritsar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Ahmedabad and Jaipur were on the drawing board, each mall taking close to 2˝ years to complete.

He said that since this was a specialty mall, the company saw no point in constructing more than one mall in each town, instead, it was thought prudent to launch a chain of wedding malls all over India.

According to Banerjee, it had been decided by the company that the construction of the wedding malls in these towns shall only be managed at the top by the company, but on ground, it shall be implemented by a local builder group of that particular town, who shall be designated the status of a Joint Venture Partner in that project like the Sarv Prakash Developers group of Agra.
