74% jump in loan sanctioning to MSE sector in May in Punjab

Banks in Punjab have recorded 74 per cent jump in sanctioning of loan amount to industrial units in the month of May this year compared with loan sanctioned in April this year under Special Package for Micro and Small Enterprise Sector (MSE).    

"Banks have sanctioned fresh working capital loans to 1370 units amounting to Rs 214 Crore upto May as against 744 working capital loans amounting to Rs 123 crore in the month of April, thus showing a growth of 84 per cent in number of cases and 74 per cent in amount of loan sanctioned over previous month of April 2009," State Level Bankers Committee, Convener, N C Jain said in fifth Special Monthly Meeting of SLBC on credit delivery to Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) convened here today.    

He further said the banks have also sanctioned enhancements in the existing 654 accounts to the tune of Rs 109 crore during May 2009. The Banks have restructured eight accounts for an amount of Rs 5 crore during May 2009, thus showing a cumulative position of 5161 accounts for an amount of Rs 800 crore since announcement of package.    

Jain further informed that in the month of May 2009, the Banks in the State of Punjab have sanctioned 616 Housing Loans amounting to Rs 19 crore making the cumulative progress to 4627 accounts amounting to Rs 259  crore.

Similarly, the banks have sanctioned 611 Housing Loans above Rs 5 lakh to Rs 20 lakh amounting to Rs 54 crore during May 2009 making the cumulative position as 3799 accounts amounting to Rs 504 crore.    

So far as the Housing Loans above Rs 20 lakh are concerned, banks have sanctioned 40 accounts for Rs 10 Crore taking the cumulative number of accounts to 316 with an amount of Rs 128 Crore.    

Jain further informed that for quick redressal of grievances of MSEs, the Public Sector Banks have set up "Regional MSME Care Centres".

Jain apprised that Ministry of MSME has desired that the information on "Regional MSME Care Centres" set up by banks in the State may be placed on the portal of Web Site of SLBC.
