A chat app to break language barrier
Shubhashish / Mumbai Feb 13, 2012, 00:15 IST

Going on a holiday abroad is always fun, and what adds to the fun is making new friends. But communicating with new friends becomes difficult as you may be knowing little French or Spanish and the foreign friends’ knowledge of English is limited.

That, however, should not be a problem any more. This is where Transfire XP, an iPhone app, comes in to the picture. The application is developed by TNT Creations, a US-based company.

The application completely removes the language barrier. How? Transfire XP brings the first chat and instant-messaging application with real-time, translated text. With Transfire XP, you can now chat with each other in real-time without any language barrier. Send a message wishing your friend in France, "Happy Birthday!" and they will read "Joyeux Anniversaire!" on their phone. When they respond, " Merci beaucoup," you read it as, "Thank you very much".

The app has achieved this by integrating Google Translate with it’s own custom instant and chat-messaging service. Transfire XP finds contacts on your local phone or device, and supports contacts from Gchat and Yahoo Messenger. Support for more chat platforms will soon be added, including Facebook, says the company.

The application supports over 50 languages including Hindi, Indonesian, Afrikaans, Chinese (simplified and traditional) Dutch, English, Persian, Polish, Russian, Vietnamese, Welsh, & Yiddish, among others. The developers say that upcoming languages include Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Tamil and Telgu!

The app is currently available only on iPhone, but the developers say that new platforms are coming soon. So, you will be able to see the app on your Android, Blackberry or even Windows Phone soon!

The app is retailing for $1.99 on the app store, and as on January 23, 2012, it has seen over 600,000 downloads.

Go ahead and start the conversation that you couldn’t do earlier, as the language barrier is no longer there!
