“We started work on the series in 2006 and it is scheduled to be completed in 2010. So you can say that it will hit every television-set next year. We wanted the best quality for an episodic animation. The budget for each episode is around Rs 45 lakh,” Shahbuddin Chowdari, chief executive officer of Alvina Films and also the producer and director of the film, told Business Standard.

Everything from creating the story to writing the screenplay, concept art, storyboards, layouts and the entire process of production is totally in house. We have a team of about 200 artists working with us in the production, he added.

The series will unfold the story of Bo Mamo, a baby mammoth, his friends Ron and Zamm and their adventures .

When asked how he expects to recover the cost, Chowdari said: “When we have put such an investment to create our product, we are sure that we will be able to recover much more than what we have invested. We have invested this big sum for a very important reason, and that’s ‘quality’. A good product is always loved by its viewers and treasured by the channels. We are also backed by worldwide marketing and distribution team. So our business sense is very well planned.”

Chowdari says his company has a professional marketing and distribution team which will make sure “that the buzz about our product is loud and deafening.” The company is backing its marketing and distribution group with a budget of Rs 1 crore.

Bo Mamo will release in Hindi, English and all major regional languages in India and will also release worldwide in all major international languages. The two hundred and fifty episode story consists of over a 100 characters and adventurous journeys through 50 different regions in a fantasy world. The duration of each episode will be of 24 minutes, Chowdari added.

On new projects by Alvina Films Chowdari said, “There are many projects which are already in the pipeline out of which one will be a live action rendition of Ali Baba which will be shot in all real locations. But as of now, we are focussing on Bo Mamo.”
