Adani Welspun Exploration Limited (AWEL), a joint venture between Adani Enterprise Ltd. and Welspun Group has started oil and gas exploration activities at its Mumbai offshore block, MB-OSN-2005/2.
Following this, the joint venture company has awarded a contract for three dimensional seismic survey to Western Geco, a Schlumberger Group Company, within a year of signing PSC for the entire block. spread across 1191 sq. kms. "The 3D seismic survey is expected to commence by December 2009," the company said in a statement.
The technologically advanced three dimensional seismic survey helps in narrowing down the prospectus for oil and gas in a given geographical area. According to a company release, AWEL intends to evaluate the prospectivity of the block using the best technology in acquisition, processing and interpretation, prior to venturing into exploratory drilling.
