Administration woos Posco project affected villagers
BS Reporter / Kolkata/ Bhubaneswar Nov 05, 2009, 00:40 IST

The district administration has made efforts to connect with the locals affected by the proposed steel project of Posco in the state ahead of the meeting of the Rehabilitation and Peripheral Development Advisory Committee (RPDAC) scheduled for November 16 this year

The Revenue Divisional Commissioner (central range), the Jagatsinghpur district collector and other officials visited the villages to be hit by the Posco project and interacted with the locals to generate public support for the Posco project.

The move is aimed at ensuring the success of the RPDAC meeting as well as the ribbon cutting ceremony of the steel project by South Korean President Lee-Myung Bak in January 2010.

Ashok Kumar Meena, Revenue Divisional Commissioner (central range) interacted with district collector on Tuesday and other officials to expedite the activities related to the Posco project. The agenda of the discussion was to ensure the success of the RPDAC meet and the inauguration of the Posco project. The officials also deliberated on the venue of the inauguration which could be either at the Posco site or at Kujang.

After discussions with the officials, Meena visited Gadkujang, Noliashai, Polanga, Bhuianpal and other villages to be affected by the project. Meena interacted with the local villagers and sought their cooperation for the Posco steel plant. He enquired the people on their demands and requested them to come forward for discussions to finalize the compensation.
