| Aero park to attract Rs 40,000cr |

The proposed aero park in Tamil Nadu is likely to attract investments to the tune of Rs 40,000 crore by 2015, according to the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) - southern region. The proposed park will provide facilities to design, manufacture and maintain civil and military aircraft.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday, CR Swaminathan, newly-elected chairman of CII-SR , said work on the park would commence this year. The state government is looking for around 4000 acres in Hosur and Chennai.
Meanwhile, CII-SR has signed a memorandum of understanding with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) to facilitate business promotion and technology for the MSMEs in auto, leather and footwear sectors.
Swaminathan said 200 companies were profiled under sub-contracting and partnership exchange through the CII-UNIDO cluster. CII is also planning to launch 14 new SME clusters in south including Chennai, Puducherry, Banglore, Kottayam and Salem.
Commenting on the prevailing power cuts in the state, he said CII had approached the government with a proposal to do away with the night shifts. “Moreover, Andhra Pradesh would get 2000 Mw of energy from the natural gas production in the K-G basin. Tamil Nadu may vouch for 750-1000 Mw from Andhra Pradesh. Wind energy will also be available from May to October.”
CII is planning to organise ICT (connect 2008) in Chennai in September and concentrate on key areas like tourism, health care, telecommunication and broadband.
