Recently, the head of a regulatory body threw a tantrum when he found that he would have to fly cattle class to the US. He was going to the US at the invitation of a government agency which had just arranged a visit of regulators to Delhi on a training assignment. The 10-member US delegation had been brought in on economy tickets since American rules are strict on this score. Travel to and fro between the regulators also has to be on an American airliner. Despite this, the chairman of the regulatory body managed to fly first class to the US while a couple of members were upgraded to business class. The mystery is who picked up the tab for the substantial difference in fares.
