| Airport Authority of India (AAI), Ahmedabad, plans to develop its unused excess land for commercial exploitation.
|
| |
| S D Awasthi, Airport Director, AAI, Ahmedabad, told Business Standard, "We will utilise 30 acres of land within the airport premises for commercial use and to generate revenue from it."
|
| |
| According to Awasthi, AAI recently came out with the list of 35 airports that fall under the scheme of city site allotment of non-metro airports that can put their excess land to commercial use. "Ahmedabad is on the top of the list of non-metro airports," adds Awasthi.

| For Ahmedabad a preliminary study has been carried out by Ernst & Young (E&Y), a global technical advisor, which suggested to develop restaurants, hotel, motels, multiplex or any kind of eating joints as there is good business potential for eating joints in the vicinity of an airport. The project will be based on public-private partnership (PPP) model.

| |
| Explaining the purpose of coming out with the project to develop excess land for commercial utilisation, Awasthi said, "It is global trend now to explore non-traffic revenue and therefore we are moving in that direction."
|
| |
| Ahmedabad's AAI has engaged a Hydrabad-based consultant S Capital Fortunes to prepare the format of the tenders for the said project. The tender for the project is expected by July.
|
| |
| "Most probably, the land will be given on the basis of a lease and not outright sale," adds Awasthi. However, the nitty-gritties of the terms and conditions are yet to be chalked out by the consultant.
|
| |
| Ahmedabad's AAI is developing an international terminal building with an investment of Rs 291 crore. The international terminal building is modelled largely on the Changi Airport of Singapore. The international terminal will have a separate parking in the basement for aircraft. |
