| AI employees hold meeting over salary issue |

Air India employees today held a meeting at the gates of their offices, at the domestic and international terminals here, as token protest against the management's decision to defer their salary payments by a fortnight.
"About 400 members of Air Corporation Employees Union, a union of employees of erstwhile Indian Airlines, Aviation Industry Employee's Guild -- union of erstwhile Air India and Indian Aircraft Technician's Association today held a meeting," said V J Deka, regional secretary of AIEG.
The airline's Chairman-cum-Managing Director, Arvind Jadhav had called for a meeting with the union members in the afternoon tomorrow, Deka said.
On June 13, National Aviation Company of India Ltd (NACIL) -- formed after the merger of Air India and Indian Airlines into one entity of Air India -- management issued a circular to its employees, saying that it was deferring the payment of June salary and productivity linked incentives to all its employees till July 15.
The development had come in the backdrop of major international carrier British Airways asking its employees to forgo their June salaries.
Accusing the airline management of taking an "anti-worker, anti-company and anti-national" stand by deciding to pay salaries on July 15 instead of the month end about 24,000 AI employees, under the banner of three unions, had decided to take a number of steps as mark of protest.
It include holding a mass meeting on June 19 and protesting the management's decision by wearing "black badges" while at work between June 22 to 25.
On June 26, they would hold a demonstration and on June 30, if the management fails to pay them their salary they would resort to "no pay-no work" policy, which is likely to affected the airline's operation.
